MICHAELSTON-UPPER, a township, in the parish of MICHAELSTON-SUPER-AVON, union and hundred of NEATH, county of GLAMORGAN, SOUTH WALES, 4} miles (S. E. by S.) from Neath; containing 399 inhabitants. Prior to the introduction of mineral and chemical works into the Lower township, this formed the more considerable portion of the parish. In a day and Sunday school, appertaining to the Calvinistic Methodists, and in which the instruction is at the parents' expense, about 40 males and females are taught daily, and about 120 on Sundays. The impropriate tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £100.
