ACTON-BURNEL, (Salop) 3 m. from Great-wenlock, is a Lp. bel. to the Burnels, an honourable family in this Co. and as
ancient as Will. the Conq. one of whom obtained a charter from Hen. III. for a Mt. and two Fairs a year, of which here is
only one kept on Good-Fr. but here is no Mt. A Pt. was held here in the R. of Edw. I. wherein a statute, called the
Statute-merchant, was made for the Assurance of Debts, when the Lds. sate in the castle (which still remains) and the Com.
in a barn, the property of the monks of St. Peter and St. Paul, at Shrewsbury, which is yet standing also; and lately, if
it does not still, bel. to Fra. Prince, Esq; Sir Rich. Smith, Bt. has a seat here.
