AMBERLEY, (Sussex) 4 m. from Arundel, and 12 from Chichester, 43 cm. and 51 mm. from London, is a great thoroughfare from
London to the former. It stands on the r. Arun, and is supposed to have always bel. as it doth now, to the Bps. of
Chichester, because Will. Read, Bp. of that see, built a castle here for his successors, in the R. of Edw. III. but leased
it out to the Butlers family, who then dwelt here.
