ATTLEBOROUGH, (Norfolk) 80 cm. 93 mm. from London, stands in the road from Thetford to Norwich, about 10 m. from each, was anciently, not only a city, but a palace, and the metropolis of the Co. and had a collegiate Ch. founded by the then Lds. of the manor, the Mortimers, descended from the Lds. Mortimer of Wigmore, in Herefordshire. Their estate here went, by marriage, first to the Ratcliffs, Es. of Sussex, and lastly to Sir Ralph Bigod. 'Tis still a considerable T. and has a good Mt. once a fortnight, for fat bullocks, sheep, &c. besides the Mt. on Th. and a ch. s. 'Tis the seat of Sir Fran. Bickley.
