BARNARDISTON, (Suffolk) or BARONDISTON, from which the Barnardiston family had their name, lies 6 m. N. of Haverille. In the R. of Edw. I. it was the Lp. of Margaret de Willoughby, and afterwards of Thomas de Woodstock, (mentioned in Barneston) E. of Buckingham and D. of Gloster, who endowed a college of priests with it, which he founded at Pleshy in Essex; of which, it is supposed to have been held by the Barnardistons, who had their seat here in the manor house, though it was afterwards removed to Keddington in this H.
