BEAWLEY, (Hampshire) in the Newforest, near Southampton, was called Beaulieu, from its pleasant situation, where K. John founded an abby for 30 Cistertian monks, to attone for the murder of some abbots of that order, whom, upon a pique, he had caused to be trodden under his horse's feet. The D. of Montagu has a seat here, and the place is of note in London, &c. for its fine beer.
