BERDON, (Essex) a little to the S. of Clavering, on the b. of Hartfordshire, formerly bel. to the priory here, viz. both the manor and the rectory of the Ch. But after the ref. the whose was granted to Henry Parker, to be held of the crown in capite; and from his heirs they came to Sir Thomas Ramsey, Ld. mayor of London,who settled them in trust on the Ld. mayor and commonalty of the city, for the use and benefit of Christ-Ch. Hos. which enjoys the profit of the estate; and the governors nominate a chaplain for the cure of souls, who is licensed by the Bp. of London.
