BESKWOOD-LODGE, (Nottinghamshire) stands in a park to the S. of the forest of Sherwood, the grant of which has, from time to time, been much solicited by the favourites of our monarchs. Sir John Byron obtained it in the R. of Henry VIII. Thomas Markham, Esq; in the R. of Q. Elizabeth; and since that it has been enjoyed by three Es. of Rutland successively. After them the Ld. Willoughby of Parham had it in Lease. Since the civil wars, it has been turned into inclosures, and much of it has been ploughed.
