BETCHWORTH-CASTLE, (Surrey) in the p. of Darking, stands on a knoll not far from Boxley-hill. The E. of Warren granted it to Edward II. In the R. of Edward III. it was in the possession of Roger Huse, and afterwards in that of Fitz-Alan, E. of Arundel. After his family, it was long in possession of the Brown's family, of which Sir Adam Brown, being the last heir male, it was brought, by the marriage of his niece and heiress, to the family of Mr. Fenwick, who lately pulled down the greatest part of the castle, and turned it into a dwelling-house.
