BEVERSTON-CASTLE, (Gloucestershire) 1 m. N. W. from Tedbury, was built in the R. of Edw. III. by Thomas E. of Berkeley, out of the ransoms of the prisoners he took at the battle of Poictiers, under the black Prince. It had a tower at each of of its four corners, one of which was lately, if it be not still remaining, and had a garrison in the civil wars, sometimes for Ch. I. and sometimes against him. This cattle and the manor passed from the Berkeley's to the families of Gourney, Ap-Adams, and Fleetwood, from which last they came to the late Sir Henry Hicks. A Mt, and Fair were granted to this place in the R. of Edward I. but they have been long disused.
