BINDON, (Dorset) 6 m. S.W. of Wareham, was heretofore the seat of the Lds. Marney; from whom it passed, by marriage of the female heir, to Thomas Howard, the eldest son of the D. of Norfolk, who, by Q. Eliz. was advanced to the title of Visc. Howard of Bindon, as Henry Howard was by Q. Anne to the title of E. of Bindon. Here was formerly an abbey, and on a hill on the S. side of this place are the remains of a camp.
