BLITHBOROUGH, (Suffolk) on the r. Blith, 97 m. from London, bet. Dunwich and Halesworth, in the road to Yarmouth. It is reckoned ancient from several Roman urns dug up not many years ago among old buildings, and the sessions is supposed to have been held here in the Saxons time, because of its having the gaol for the division of Beccles. Here, is a fine old Ch. It had formerly a priory; and also a Mt. and Fair granted by K. Edw. II. to John, Ld. Clavering, whose family were the ancient Lds. of the manor; which in the R. of Edw. III. came to Ralph Nevil by marriage. Here.are still some good inns, though the Mt. is disused.
