BOLTON, (Lancashire) 8 m. from Manchester, 183 cm. and 237 mm. from London, noted for its medicinal waters; but more for being the staple of divers sorts of fustians, especially those cotton mfs. called Augsburg and Milan fustians, which are brought to its Mt. and Fairs, from all parts of the country, and sold to the peasants for cloaths, and to the gentry for linings, &c. The old E. of Derby was beheaded here, in 1651, for proclaiming K. Ch. II. for this was called the Geneva of Lancashire, and was the first T. in the km. that put the militia in execution, Here is a Mt. on M. and Fairs on June 29, July 20, and Aug. 16.
