BOTHALL, (Northumberland) on the E. shore, bet. the rs. Lyne and Wentsbeck, not far from Morpeth, was formerly the Lp. of the Bertrams, one of whom, in the R. of Edward III. built a castle here, of which there are yet some remains; But he leaving no issue-male, his daughter carried it in marriage to the Ogles family, from which it went afterwards to that of Cavendish, in Nottinghamshire, and was the seat of the D's. of Newcastle of that family.
