BROMPTON-BRIAN, (Herefordshire) 7 m. from Ludlow, and on the b. of Radnorshire, was held by the family of Brian, sirnamed
Brompton, successively to the R. of Edw. III. when it came to the Harleys, ancestors of the present E. of Oxford, by the
marriage of Sir Robert Harley, then Kt. of the shire for Salop, with the daughter and heir of Sir Brian de Brompton, Ld.
of Brompton. The castle here is a stately pile with fine parks.
