CARLETON, (Nottinghamshire) 4 m. S. W. of Blith, on the b. of Yorkshire, is called Carleton in Linderic. It bel. formerly to the Latimers and Fitz-Hughs; from whom it came to the Ld. Dacres, Molineuxes; and in the R. of Cha. II. was purchased by Major Taylor, who was some time superintendant of the Mole at Tangier. Sir Gervase Clifton, Bt. has a fine seat here.
