CHESTER-OVER, (Warwickshire) a hamlet of Monks-Kirkby; was in the Rs. of Edw. III and Rich. II. the inheritance of the Lovets; by whom it was afterwards conveyed to the Purefoys of Church-Over; and in the R. of Hen. VI. Will. Purefoy and John Waver were certified to be Lds, of this manor after which, in the same R. we find it solely in the possession of Hen. Waver, citizen and draper of London, who obtained a patent of that K. to rebuild his seat with turrets, and embattle it with walls; and to encose 520 acres of land here for a park; as also to have a court-leet, with free warren and fishing in all his domains. In the R. of Hen. VII. it came, by marriage of the heiress, to Will. Brown, who built the gatehouse of timber, which was standing in 1640. Her grandson Edw. Brown sold it, in the R. of Hen. VIII. to Sir Fulk Grevil; from whom it descended to Robert, late Ld. Brooke.
