COKENEY, (Nottinghamshire) on the S. side of Welbeck-Abbey, formerly bel. to the Faulconbergs, who held this manor by serjeanty, to shoe the K's. horse when he came to Mansfield, and procured a Mt. and Fair here, long since disused. He settled the manor upon Welbeck-Abbey; but, at the Ref. it was sold by the crown, with all its hamlets, to Sir George Pierpoint, whose posterity the Ds. of Kingston have enjoyed it ever since.
