DEAN, (Northamptonshire) 3 m. from Rockingham, and 18 N. E. of Northampton, stands among woods, which are therefore called the Forest of Dean, and bel. formerly to Westminster-Abbey, which is supposed to have leased it to the family of Dean; from whom it passed to the Tindals, and from them to the Brudenels, ancestors of the present Earl of Cardigan, who has a pleasant seat here.
