DELAMERE-FOREST, (Cheshire) to the N. E. of Chester, towards the r. Weever, is a delightful and comfortable place to the neighbouring townships, having pasture in its valleys, wood on its hills, fern on its plains, fish and fowl in the meers, besides turfs for fewel, &c. It gave title of Baron, at the Restoration of Cha. II. to Sir Geo. Booth, whose son was, by K. William, made Earl of Warrington, for his services at the Revolution. There is a seat in it, called the Chamber of the Forest, which was for the chief foresters, the Dawns of Utkinton, who held that office by inheritance, by gift of Ranulph, I. Earl of Chester, to Ranulph Dawn of Kingsley, their ancestor, the estate of whose family came lately by marriage to the Crews.
