EGHAM, (Surrey) on the Thames, opposite to Stanes, 3 m. from Windsor, bel. formerly to the abbeys of Chertsey in Surry, and Ankerwyke in Bucks; but since to John Thynne, Esq; from whose relict it was purchased by Mr. Adrian Moor, attorney at law, lately deceased. 'Tis divided into 4 tithings, and being a thoroughfare from London to the W. has some very good inns. Here is a noble ch. sc. besides almshs. particularly one, built and endowed by Baron Denham, surveyor of the works to K. Cha. II. for 5 poor old women, who have each an orchard. The parsonage-house here was the seat of Sir John Denham, who rebuilt it, and was the father of the poet, who took great delight in it.
