FISKERTON, (Nottinghamshire) on the Trent, near Southwell, bel. anciently to the mon. of Thurgarton; whose prior obtained a Mt. and Fair here; but the Mt. if not the Fair, has been long disused. The manor-house and grange was held under the convent, by a family of the same name, for many successions. After the Diss. the grange was given, by Phil, and Mary, to Edw. Fiennes Ld. Clinton and Say. All the demesne and manor, with the tithes and ferry here, were given, by Q. Eliz. to Tho. Cooper, Esq; and his heirs; one of whom sold it to Huntington Plumptree, M.D. in 1649; whose son sold the ferry and some farms to John Cliffe of Nottingham, as Sir Roger Cooper, a descendant of Thomas aforefaid, did some parcels to Mr. Atkinson and others.
