FLETCHAMSTED, (Warwickshire) 2 m. from Coventry, now divided into Upper and Lower, was first an hermitage, then bel. to the Kts. Templars; and then to the Kts. Hospitallers; after whose Diss. their estate here was granted to John Beaumont, Esq; and his heirs, by the name of a manor; the lands thereunto bel. being said to be in Upper-Fletchamsted. In the R. of Edw. VI. he alienated it to Will. Humbeston, and his heirs; of whom it was purchased by Sir Tho. Leigh, whose son made a park here, and built a fine house, which was enjoyed by his grandson in 1640. Lower-Fletchamsted, was, in the R. of Hen. VII. the estate of Sir John Catesby; of whose son and heir it was purchased by John Smith of Coventry, whose descendant, Sir John Smith of Crabet, was Ld. of it in 1640.
