GONALSTON, (Nottinghamshire) on the S. E. side of Shcrwood-Forest, was a manor held anciently by the Peverells, and passed through several families to the Pierpoints, of whom Sir Henry sold it to Mr. Monox, an ald. of London, whose posterity did some time ago, if they do not still, enjoy it. Here was an ancient chapel, chantry, or hos. which, thro' many patents of concealment, has been continued since the Diss. by the name of Gonalston-Spittle. Here is a small ch. sc.
