GRINDON, (Staffordshire) on the S. E. side of Leek, was a long while in possession of the Bassets, till purchased by the last D. of Albemarle. Dr. Plot says this p. produces great quantities of excellent marble, of a white, hard, shining grit, strip'd red, which takes so good a polish, that it is fit for chimney-pieces, monuments, &c.
