HAMSTED-MARSHAL, (Berkshire) near the Kennel r. 3 m. W. from Newberry, had the surname, because it formerly bel. to the earl-marshal of England. Here Sir Tho. Parr, treasurer of the houshold to Q. Eliz. built a fine seat; and the late Ld. Craven, who had his title of Baron from hence built a much finer, on an eminence visible to all that pass the Bath road; but in Jan. 1719 it was burnt down,
