*HARESBURY, (Wiltshire) on the Willy, near Warmister, is in old records called Heightsbury, or Heytsbury; and now it is writ Hatchbury. It was once the seat of the Empress Maud, and bel. heretofore to the Lds. Hungerford and Hastings; from which last family it went to that of Ashe, who have generally had the honour to represent it in Pt. Here are Fairs May 7 and Sept, 14; and it has sent members to Pt. ever since Hen. VI. it being an ancient Bor. by prescription. One of the Lds. Hungerfords built an almsho. here, for 12 poor men and a woman. Here is a collegiate Ch. with 4 prebendaries, and a fr. sc. and the place is governed by a bailiff and burgesses.
