*HASLEMERE, (Surrey) 36 cm. 41 mm. from London, is an ancient T. that was once destroyed by the Danes. It is a Bor. by prescription, and has sent members to Pt. ever since the R. of Edw. IV. who are chose by a bailiff and burgage-teeners. It is said to have had 7 p. Chs. formerly, though but one Ch. now, which is a chapel of ease to Chidingfold; and that it stood heretofore upon a hill more to the S. than the present T. which is the more probable, because of the many wells often discovered hereabouts. It is in the Lp. of Godalming, and with it bel. to the deanery of Sarum. It has a Mt. on T. which is chiefly for poultry, and Fairs on May-day and Sept. 13, by virtue of Q. Elizabeth's letters patent in 1596.
