HEMPSTON, BROAD and LITTLE, (Devon) near Ashburton. The former once gave title of Baron to the Cantelupes, and by marriage
of a daughter passed to Sir Tho. West. The latter, which is in the p. of Harberton, was the ancient estate of the
Cheyneys; from whom it descended to Willoughby Ld. Brooke, and afterwards it came to Knolles.
