HENDRED-EAST, (Berkshire) 3 m. E. of Wantage, though now a village of not more than about 150 houses, was at the Diss. a considerable Mt.-town. It stands on the b. of the Vale of White-Horse, at the foot of the downs under Cuckhamsley-Hill. It is but a single p. though situate in 2 Hs. viz. Wantage and Reading, has 3 constables and 3 tithing-men, and 5 manors, in all which is kept a court-baron, and in 3 of them a court-leet.
