HEYWOOD, GREAT and LITTLE, (Staffordshire) on the E. side of Stafford, near the influx of the Sow into the Trent, bel. formerly to the Bps. of Coventry and Litchfield; one of whom, in the R. of Hen. III. gave it to his valet, Rob. Aston, whose descendants enjoyed it, 'till the R. of Edw. VI. since which it has bel. to the Lds. Pagets. Bet. this place and Sowborough, or Shutborcugh, there is a horse-bridge over the Trent, longer than any in England, having near 40 arches.
