HORSHEATH, (Cambridgeshire) near Linton, bel. for many generations to the ancient and noble family of Allington, but since came to the Bromleys, and was purchased by the ancestor of the present Ld. Mountford. Part of this p. retains the name of Jacob's-Manor, from William Jacob who resided here in the R. of Henry VIII. This part of the Co. abounds with melilot, whose seeds mix so much with the corn in their lands, that it gives a taste to their bread, which is very disagreeable to strangers.
