IRCKINFIELD, (Herefordshire) on the E. side of the Golden-Vale, is that part of the Co. which history says was destroyed
with fire and sword by the Danes, anno 715; and where certain revenues were assigned to one or two priests, on condition
that they should go on embassies from the Ks. of England into Wales; and the inh. whenever the army marched against the
enemy, were to form the van-guard, and in their return homewards the rear-guard.
