IRON-ACTON, (Gloucestershire) at the conflux of the Stower and Laden, which form the r. Frome, W. of Chipping-Sodbury, is a p. 3 m. in com. where much iron has formerly been dug up, and many iron works and great heaps of cinders are still to be seen. Soon after the conquest, this manor came to the Actons, who took their name from it, and held it till the R. of K. Rich. II. when it went, by marriage, to Sir John Pointz, in whose family it continued near 400 years, till sold by the widow of another Sir John Pointz to Mr. Player; from whom it passed to Simon Harcourt, Esq; with the park bel. to it.
