ISLIP, (Oxfordshire) 47 cm. 57 mm. from London, is noted for the birth and baptism of Edward the Confessor, who gave the manor to Westminster-Abbey. His font is still in the possession of a gentleman at Nether-Ridlington. It has a good Mt. for sheep, and some remains of an ancient palace, said to have been K. Ethelred's. Here is a ch. sc.
