KENNINGTON, (Kent) near Ashford, was always, according to the import of the name, a royal manor, as well as Kenilbrooke, another manor in this p. which Will. the Conq. annexed to his royal manor of Wye, and being reckoned an appendage of it, followed its fate at the Diss. when it was taken from the patrimony of Battle-Abbey. Q. Eliz. granted it to her kinsman, Henry Cary Ld. Hunsdon, whose grandson, Henry Earl of Dover, sold it to Sir Tho. Finch, in whose family, now Earls of Winchelsea, it rested.
