KIRKBY-IRELETH, (Lancashire) near the Dudden-Sands, has a stately seat, giving name to the Kirkbys, who have been Lds. of it ever since the Conquest. The manor-house is called Kirkby-Cross-House, from a cross which stood before the gate, till Sandys Abp. of York ordered the top of it to be broke off.
