LAMERTON, (Devon) or LAMBERETON, 2 m. from Tavistock, has in its Ch. the effigies of Nicholas and Andrew Tremaine, twins, who were not only so like as scarce to be distinguished, but suffered the same pain, and had the same appetites, though at a distance, at the same time; and were killed together at Newhaven in France, in 1663. The manor was formerly the Giffards, from whom it descended to the family of Trewen, and afterwards by marriage to the Fortescues.
