LAYDON, (Kent) or LEYSDON, in the Isle of Shepey, bel. to the cathedral of Canterbury. Its inh. were privileged formerly
to set up wears any where (for which they paid a duty) to catch fish, till it was forbidden, by Magna Charta, to set them
on the Thames, or Medway, or elsewhere, except on the seacoast.
