LONGFORD, (Wiltshire) 3 m. from Salisbury, the seat of Bovery the Ld. Visc. Folkston, to whom it gives title of Baron. The house was built in the R. of K. James I. It is of a triangular form with round towers at each corner, in which are the dining-room, library, and chapel. There is a gallery with admirable pictures of the chief masters, particularly 2 land- scapes of Claud Lorrain, one a rising, the other a setting-sun, which, are reckoned two of his best pieces. It is said, the pictures, furniture, and fitting up of this gallery cost 10000 l. The r. Avon runs through the garden.
