MEREVALE, (Warwickshire) scarce 1 m. W. of Atherston, was anciently an out-wood to Grendon on the other side the r. and had an abbey, founded by Rob. Ferrers in the R. of K. Steph. the site of which, with the lands and woods adjacent, was given by K. Hen. VIII. to Sir Walter Devereux, Ld. Ferrers of Chartley, after Visc. Hereford; from whom it descended to Robert E. of Essex, who enjoyed it in 1640.
