METTINGHAM, (Suffolk) near Bungay, was, in the R. of Edw. III. the estate of a family of the same name, and then of Sir
John de Norwich, vice-admiral of England, who built a castle, and founded a mon. in it. His grandson left it to Catherine
de Brews; from whom it came to Rob, de Ufford, E. of Suffolk.
