NORHAM, (Northumberland) on the r. Tweed, near the mouth of the Till, under the castle which was anciently erected by Ralph Bp. of Durham on a steep rock, that he moated round, for the better security of this part of his diocese against the incursions of the Scots moss-troopers. This p. bel. to the see of Durham; for it was built, together with the Ch. by Bp. Egfrid, the predecessor of the abovementioned Ralph. Here is a seat of the Ld. Crew.
