OKEWOOD, (Surrey) so called from its old site in a wood of oaks, is a chapel of ease to the Chs. of Wotton, Abinger, and Ockley in this Co. and to two others in Sussex, on the b. of which it stands. The said chapel was built by Edw. De la Hale, who died, and was buried here in 1431. Near this place are pits, out of which jett was formerly dug.
