PITSEY, (Essex) in Little-Bradfield, bel. anciently to the priory of Stoke near Clare; but Edward VI. granted it to his preceptor, Sir John Cheek. On its being afterwards exchanged with the crown, Q. Mary I. granted it to Henry Vavasor, &c. Tho. Finch of Stansted-Hall had it next, and John Owen held it in 1636. In the R. of Cha. I. it bel. to one Plumb; who forfeiting it by killing a bailiff, it was granted to some person, who gave it to the Haberdashers company of London, who pay something out of it to charity.
