RUCKING, (Kent) 5 m. N.W. of New-Rumney, whose marsh claims over some part of the p. as Wye-Liberty does over the other; while that of the dean of Canterbury claims over so much of it, as is in the manors of Ickham and Rucking, which were given to that Ch. by Henry VIII. The manor of Rucking was first given to the Ch. of Canterbury by K. Offa, ad pascua porcorum, i.e. for feeding their hogs. A Fair was granted to this place on St. Mary Magdalen's day, to whom the Ch. is dedicated.
