SHEERNESS, (Kent) on a point of Sheppey-Island, where the West-Swale, or Medway, falls into the Thames, has a royal fort,
raised by Charles II. in the room of that demolished at Queenborough, which has a line of cannon, facing the mouth of the
Medway, with good apartments for the officers of the ordnance, navy, and garrison, here being a yard and dock, as an
appendix to Chatham; from whence the yard and garrison are partly supplied with fresh-water.
