SHERBORN, (Oxfordshire) 6 m. from Wallingford, has the remains of a castle once bel. to the Quatermains, and for many generations the manor and seat of the Chamberlains, descendants from the Es. of Tankervill. In 1716, when it bel. to Thomas Gage, Esq; he sold the castle and all the estate to Sir Tho. Parker, afterwards E. of Macclesfield, the father of the present noble E. whose seat it now is. Here was formerly the seat of Ld, Abergaveny.
