SIFFIVERNES, (Hertfordshire) in Codicote p. had a walnut-tree in 1627, for which Mr. Penn, then Ld. of the manor, was offered 50 l. It covered 76 poles of ground, and the weight of the boughs on each side cleft the trunk in twain. Mr. Penn had 19 loads of plank cut of it; a gun-stockmaker at London had as much, as cost 10 l. carriage; and there were 30 loads more of roots and branches
