SUTTON, (Nottinghamshire) which was a hamlet of Mansfield, and also called Sutton in Ashfield, once bel. part of it to the priory at Thurgarton, and afterwards bel. to the Suttons till the R. of Q. Eliz. when it was in the hands of Roger de Greenhagh; by the marriage of whose daughter it came to Gervase Nevil; after which it was sold to Ja. Hardwick; from whom it went by marriage to the D. of Devonshire's ancestors.
